Summer 2024 saw the unforgettable Heat of the Moment Tour grace stages across North America, featuring rock legends Asia, Focus, Martin Turner ex Wishbone Ash, and Curved Air, all guided by the artistic vision of Roger Dean. From Ridgefield, CT to Medford, MA, this tour delivered nights of classic rock brilliance, leaving audiences in awe of the enduring power of music and, of course, the iconic “Heat of the Moment” song.
July 3rd, 2024: Ridgefield Playhouse, Ridgefield, CT
The opening night at Ridgefield Playhouse began with the enchanting sounds of Curved Air. Sonja Kristina’s vocals, accompanied by Kirby Gregory’s guitar and Grzegorz Gadziomski’s mesmerizing violin, created an intimate acoustic experience. Their set, a curated selection from Curved Air’s rich discography, was punctuated by Sonja’s insightful commentary, adding depth to their performance. Gadziomski’s violin playing was a particular highlight, captivating the audience with its sheer beauty.
Martin Turner, formerly of Wishbone Ash, took the stage next, bringing his signature twin-guitar sound to life. Alongside Danny Wilson and Misha Nikolic on guitars, and Sonny Flint on drums, Turner’s band delivered a set filled with classic Wishbone Ash energy. The vocal harmonies between Martin and Danny were seamless, and the band’s overall sound was infectious, making it impossible not to move along with the music.
Focus then commanded the stage, led by the incomparable Thijs van Leer. With Menno Gootjes on guitar, Udo Pannekeet on bass, and Pierre van der Linden on drums, Focus showcased their progressive rock mastery. “Eruption” was a standout performance, highlighting Pierre van der Linden’s exceptional drumming skills. His extended drum solos were a spectacle of controlled frenzy, a true masterclass in percussion.
Following an intermission, anticipation filled the air for Asia. As the lights dimmed and the stage bathed in atmospheric light, Geoff Downes, John Mitchell, Harry Whitley, and Virgil Donati emerged to thunderous applause.

July 4th, 2024: OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino Resort, Niagara Falls, ON
The second night at Niagara Falls was equally magical. For those who, like the reviewer, never had the chance to see John Wetton perform live, Harry Whitley’s performance was a revelation. Hearing that iconic bass tone and vocal delivery so close was an emotional experience, bringing the spirit of John Wetton to life.
Once again, the highlight was the “Heat of the Moment” song. The audience mirrored the previous night’s enthusiasm, rising to their feet, singing along, and dancing to the timeless anthem. Witnessing the unifying power of music, especially during “Heat of the Moment,” was a truly special experience. The concert was a resounding success, further solidifying the tour’s impact and the enduring appeal of the “Heat of the Moment” song.
July 6th, 2024: Chevalier Theatre, Medford, MA
The final reviewed concert in Medford, MA, brought another memorable moment. Before launching into “Video Killed The Radio Star,” Harry Whitley added a touch of theatrical flair with a costume change, donning Trevor Horn-esque black glasses. This playful moment highlighted the band’s relaxed stage presence and their connection with the audience.
