Lost In Your Eyes: A Timeless Ballad Perfect as a Happy Anniversary Song

Coming home from school one day, I instinctively sat down at our family’s Kimball upright piano and began playing the intro to “Lost In Your Eyes,” as if the melody had always existed within me. The song flowed effortlessly, almost writing itself from start to finish as I scribbled down lyrics, feeling an undeniable sense of magic in the moment.

My debut album was already complete, and a summer tour was on the horizon. I knew immediately that this newly born song needed to be part of my live set. The audience’s reaction when I first played the opening notes was unforgettable. They responded with the enthusiasm of recognizing a hit song instantly, even before its official release.

There was absolutely no question in my mind that “Lost In Your Eyes” had to be the lead single from my upcoming “Electric Youth” album. While some advisors considered it a risk to launch an album with a ballad, I believed in putting my best foot forward and giving the audience what their hearts were already embracing.

This song marked my second self-produced track and remarkably became my second number one hit. For me, the secret to producing a truly impactful ballad lies in letting the music speak for itself. There’s no complex formula or hidden skill involved; it’s about stepping back and allowing the emotion to resonate.

Performing “Lost In Your Eyes” has gifted me with incredible memories over the years. Highlights include singing it on the AMA’s while co-hosting, performing it for fans in Chile just last year, and even serenading Ryan Seacrest seaside on KTVU Mornings on 2. This song consistently creates new cherished moments while evoking beautiful nostalgia.

In a spontaneous moment last year, I crashed a wedding at a restaurant I frequent and sang “Lost In Your Eyes” acapella for the newlyweds. Adding to the song’s serendipitous connections, my agent David Shapira’s daughter chose it as her wedding song – a delightful surprise for him after he had already signed me! He certainly knows it well now.

“Lost In Your Eyes” is truly a song that keeps on giving, a gift I feel incredibly blessed to have received from the song fairies. While I call it my own, it truly belongs to everyone who has listened to it and loved it throughout the years. Thank you to all of you for the enduring love for “Lost in Your Eyes”!

Happy #1 Day anniversary to “Lost in Your Eyes”! May its timeless melody continue to be the soundtrack to countless romantic moments, perhaps even as your perfect Happy Anniversary Song.

X Debbie
