This year has witnessed a surge of new boy group debuts, many featuring familiar faces from Boys Planet. Among them, FNC Entertainment’s AMPERS&ONE has captured attention, particularly with the vibrant and optimistic direction of their music. For those yearning for a resurgence of rich synthesizers and driving dance rhythms in K-pop, the promotional glimpses of “On And On” initially sparked considerable excitement and anticipation.

The released track largely fulfills this promise. Its most compelling attribute is undoubtedly its dynamic production, commencing with a bold and attention-grabbing introduction that maintains momentum throughout. It’s invigorating to encounter a song that sustains such an unrelenting tempo and level of energy from beginning to end. There’s a palpable sense of rookie enthusiasm permeating the track, resulting in an accessible and exhilarating listening experience. Echoes of early Seventeen resonate in their performance, as AMPERS&ONE clearly arrives with the intention to deliver a captivating show, a spirit that is genuinely appreciated.

However, “On And On” encounters minor setbacks primarily in the realm of songwriting. While the robust production provides a powerful foundation, it arguably necessitates stronger melodic anchors. The chorus, while pleasant and somewhat predictable, fulfills its role adequately. The verses, however, represent a missed opportunity to build upon the song’s initial energy. They present a combination of rap segments and fleeting melodic fragments that, unfortunately, do not coalesce into a particularly memorable or structurally sound composition. The members’ evident passion and commitment partially compensate for these melodic shortcomings, and they successfully execute several impactful moments. Nevertheless, “On And On” contains instances that feel somewhat like placeholders, briefly interrupting the overall flow. Fortunately, AMPERS&ONE redeems this with a vibrant and electrifying finale, propelling the track to a satisfyingly energetic conclusion. If they can refine their songwriting while maintaining this stylistic trajectory, AMPERS&ONE possesses the potential to become a truly exciting and prominent act in the K-pop landscape.
