Discover the Midnight Song: Unveiling the Heart of “Midnight Sun”

For fans eagerly awaiting the release of “Midnight Sun”, the anticipation is almost over! But before you dive into Edward Cullen’s world as you’ve never seen it, there’s one more piece of the puzzle to share – the definitive Midnight Song. This isn’t just another track for a playlist; it’s the song that embodies the very essence of “Midnight Sun,” an overarching theme that resonates throughout the novel. And incredibly, it’s a song you’re hearing for the first time in connection with this story.

The Genesis of a Midnight Melody

To understand the significance of this track, we need to journey back to the era of the Twilight movies. During the film production, one of the most exciting aspects was exploring the vast landscape of music submissions for the soundtracks. As you know, the Twilight soundtracks became iconic in their own right, filled with incredible music. This was largely thanks to the exceptional talent of music supervisor Alex Patsavas. Alex presented a wealth of amazing musical options, some specifically crafted for the films, others discovered gems. Naturally, not every song could make the final cut. Many beloved tracks were released later, while some, unfortunately, faded into obscurity.

Among these musical treasures was a particular song by a favorite band. This song was a remarkable sonic representation of Edward’s complex emotional state throughout Twilight. It captured his despair, his fleeting hope, and the recurring shadows of despair. It conveyed the exhilaration of first love intertwined with the ominous certainty of impending tragedy. Perhaps because it was so intrinsically linked to Edward’s perspective, it didn’t quite fit within the Bella-centric narrative of the movies. And so, it remained, a perfect soundtrack to a story that, at the time, only existed in my imagination. The band never officially released it; it lived solely on an old demo CD and my personal Midnight Sun playlist.

For a decade, this song has been my private listening pleasure, a secret soundtrack to Edward’s untold story.

From Personal Playlist to Public Revelation

When the dream of completing Midnight Sun became a reality, my thoughts naturally turned to the accompanying playlist. The process of curating the playlist involved refining choices, adding new songs, removing others, and searching for tracks that truly captured the emotional landscape of the book. But there was a crucial element missing. It felt incomplete without the song, the quintessential “Midnight Sun” track. The problem? It was a song that didn’t officially exist in the public domain.

Fortunately, with the invaluable assistance of the amazing Alex Patsavas, I was able to reconnect with the band behind this elusive song. To my immense delight, they were incredibly supportive and willing to share their music. Therefore, it is with immense pleasure that I present to you the midnight song. I sincerely hope you connect with it as deeply as I have, though I admit, that might be a high bar to clear. From the brilliant minds at Motion City Soundtrack, I introduce to you “Crooked Ways.”
