Bill burst through the back door, a stack of mail in hand, his energy infectious. “Soup?” he asked, already seeking comfort in the simmering pot on the stove. Before even a breath, he launched into animated details about his latest video edit. His eyes glistened with emotion as he recounted the powerful, spontaneous testimonials captured during their recent Homecoming filming. “God is doing something incredible,” he declared, his voice filled with awe. “We’re just lucky to witness it.”
Enjoy! I thought, a quiet affirmation resonating within.
Jesus envisioned a life overflowing with blessings in the ordinary cadence of our days. His very purpose, He proclaimed, was to grant us “life, and life to the full” (John 10:10). This abundance isn’t reserved for grand occasions; it’s woven into the fabric of every moment. Each day, each fleeting second, pulses with an eternal significance. If we attune ourselves to this reality, an overwhelming joy becomes our natural response. Perhaps this is the very revelation Moses experienced at the burning bush. Imagine Yahweh, in a moment of divine intervention, sharpening Moses’ perception to reveal the extraordinary within the ordinary. Suddenly, the ground beneath his feet became sacred, and the desert shrubs blazed with divine glory. This encounter not only ignited awe but also heightened Moses’ awareness of his people’s suffering, seen anew in God’s radiant presence.
My father-in-law’s constant reminder echoes this sentiment: “This isn’t a dress rehearsal, kids. This is life. Don’t miss a moment of it.” Indeed, life’s symphony, composed of both pain and pleasure, laughter and tears, plays out continuously around us, waiting for us to truly listen and respond. These moments, these feelings – they are the verses of our own unique Love Song to life.
Years prior, a melody and lyrics had emerged, circling back into my thoughts that rainy afternoon as I watched the world blur through my coffee-steamed window: Fully alive in Your Spirit; Lord, make me fully alive! Sermons abound, yet the most profound message I recently encountered was a silent one, preached by a bustling waitress. As she poured coffee, her simple act declared, “God has given us this day. I don’t want to miss it.” This day, this moment, is a gift. This is our love song. Enjoy!
Don’t let me miss all the glory around me
Waiting for heaven someday to come;
Open my eyes to miraculous Mondays,
And make my feet march to eternity’s drum.
Fully alive in Your Spirit;
Lord, make me fully alive!
Fully aware of Your presence, Lord,
Totally, fully alive!
Don’t let me wait for some far-off forever
To say what I feel to the ones I hold dear,
Risking the pain and the joys of loving,
Keep me awake and alive while I’m here!
Help me to see in this moment my calling;
Don’t let me wait for some “field far away.”
Cries in my street, lives that are broken—
Lord, let me see them and touch them… today!
Fully alive in Your Spirit;
Lord, make me fully alive!
Fully aware of Your presence, Lord,
Totally, fully alive!
