Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo to Headline New Korean Drama Series “Show Business”

Two of South Korea’s most beloved stars, Song Hye-kyo of Descendants of the Sun fame and Gong Yoo, known globally for his role in Squid Game, are confirmed to share the screen in the upcoming drama series, Show Business (working title). This exciting project will immerse viewers in the dynamic and often cutthroat world of the Korean entertainment industry during the 1960s and 1980s.

Adding to the star-studded cast, Kim Seol-hyun from Light Shop, Cha Seung-won of Uprising, and Lee Hanee, celebrated for her role in The Fiery Priest, are also set to join Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo in this highly anticipated series.

Song Hye-kyo is slated to portray Min-ja, a compelling character described as a woman of resilience, hardened by a difficult upbringing. Her journey takes a pivotal turn when she identifies an opportunity within the burgeoning Korean music scene. Driven by ambition and a desire to leave her mark, Min-ja fearlessly enters the industry. This role marks a significant addition to Song Hye-kyo’s already impressive filmography, promising a portrayal of strength and determination.

Gong Yoo will play Dong-gu, Min-ja’s childhood confidant. Their shared history and experiences forge a deep bond as they navigate the challenges of the music industry together. Despite his seemingly reckless and unpredictable nature, Dong-gu harbors a deep affection for Min-ja and demonstrates unwavering support for her aspirations. The dynamic between Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo’s characters is expected to be a central element of the drama.

Further enriching the narrative, Kim Seol-hyun takes on the role of Min-hui, who shares a complex, love-hate relationship with Min-ja that stretches back to their childhood. Initially portrayed as innocent and impressionable, Min-hui’s character is set to evolve, revealing a more rebellious and astute side as the story unfolds.

Cha Seung-won will embody Gil-yeo, a highly respected composer renowned for his Midas touch in transforming singers into stars. His presence in Show Business hints at the series’ deep dive into the musical aspects of the Korean entertainment industry during its golden eras.

Lee Hanee will portray Yang-ja, Min-ja’s mother, an aspiring singer who, despite facing numerous hardships and the harsh realities of her chosen path, remains steadfast in her pursuit of her dreams. Yang-ja’s storyline adds another layer to the rich tapestry of characters within Show Business.

Show Business is penned by the acclaimed writer Noh Hee-gyoung, known for her poignant work in Our Blues, and will be directed by Lee Yoon-jung, celebrated for the popular series Coffee Prince. The collaboration of these creative powerhouses, combined with the stellar cast led by Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo, positions Show Business as a must-watch addition to the streaming platform’s expanding Korean drama lineup. This series joins a roster of other high-profile Korean titles, signaling a continued investment in Korean content.
