Hey everyone! For those who don’t know me, let me just say it loud and clear: I am a VeggieTales fanatic! Ever since I was little, I’ve been glued to Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber, and the whole countertop crew. And let’s be honest, one of the absolute best parts of VeggieTales is “Silly Songs With Larry”! This segment is pure comedic gold, totally separate from the main story, and just there to make us laugh.
Recently, I’ve noticed some fellow YouTubers like Christian Nutrition and Microwave Society have been diving into the world of Silly Songs and ranking them. Inspired, I thought, “Why not throw my own veggie-loving hat into the ring?” So, here it is, my ultimate ranking of every single Silly Song from VeggieTales! Get ready for a deep dive into silliness, cucumber style.
#1: “My Baby Elf” – Lord Of The Beans (2005)
When I go walkin’ all by myself, I’m busy thinkin’ about my elf. I keep her picture on my shelf, I’m always dreamin’ about my elf
This song? Pure, unadulterated comedic genius. Seriously, “My Baby Elf” is the Silly Songs pinnacle for me. The sheer absurdity of Larry serenading his “baby elf,” combined with the elf’s hilariously grumpy and yelled responses, gets me every single time. And the subtitles translating her elf-speak? Absolutely brilliant! I genuinely struggle to breathe I’m laughing so hard whenever this song plays. It’s the perfect storm of silly lyrics, ridiculous premise, and impeccable comedic timing. For me, nothing tops the sheer joy of “My Baby Elf.”
#2: “Monkey” – The Wonderful Wizard Of Ha’s (2007)
If it doesn’t have a tail its not a monkey, even if it has a monkey kinda shape. If it doesn’t have a tail its not a monkey, if it doesn’t have a tail its not a monkey its an ape!
“Monkey” is a close second, and honestly, it’s neck and neck with “My Baby Elf” on any given day. The safari setting with Larry and Bob is already funny, but Larry’s complete and utter misunderstanding of the monkey vs. ape explanation is what sends this song into the stratosphere. The repetition, the escalating confusion, and Bob’s increasingly exasperated reactions are just comedy gold. It’s simple, catchy, and incredibly effective in its silliness. Plus, who can resist singing “If it doesn’t have a tail, it’s not a monkey!” at random moments?
#3: “Pizza Angel” – Minnesota Cuke and the Search For Samson’s Hairbrush (2001)
Pizza angel please come to me, tomato sauce and cheese so gooey! Pizza angel I’m on my knees! Don’t forget to add my favorite anchovies!
This song is hilariously dramatic. “Pizza Angel” perfectly parodies those classic “teen tragedy” songs, but with a VeggieTales twist. Larry’s passionate yearning for his pizza, the almost operatic delivery, and the tragic (and sudden) end to his pizza dreams are just brilliant. The over-the-top mourning and melodramatic tone are what make this song so incredibly funny. And the anchovies detail? Chef’s kiss! It’s a perfect example of VeggieTales taking a familiar genre and making it uniquely, and hilariously, their own.
#4: “Pants” – Sweetpea Beauty (2010)
See the tag on the back, one size fits all! They’re pants if your short and shorts if you’re tall. You can wear ’em to the farm, you can wear ’em to the mall, they’re pants if you’re short and shorts if you’re tall!
Vegetables selling pants on a home shopping network? Yes, please! “Pants” is just inherently funny. The concept of Larry, Pa Grape, and the Gourd brothers as VSN hosts hawking “one-size-fits-all” pants is wonderfully absurd. The jingle-like quality of the song, the enthusiastic sales pitch, and the visual of veggies in pants (or shorts!) is just pure silliness. And the Ginsu knives bonus offer? Classic VeggieTales humor. It’s catchy, ridiculous, and consistently makes me smile.
#5: “I Love My Lips” – Dave and the Giant Pickle (1998)
If my lips moved to Duluth, left a mess and took my tooth, that’d be too bad. I’d be so sad.
Larry in therapy talking about his lips? Sign me up! “I Love My Lips” is a masterclass in absurdism. The whole concept of Larry being emotionally attached to his lips and discussing his childhood memories with them is just wonderfully bizarre. And the story about getting his lips stuck in a gate? Hilarious! Larry’s delivery, especially the scatting part, is top-notch comedy. It’s quirky, unexpected, and showcases Larry’s unique brand of silliness perfectly.
#6: “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything” – The Ultimate Silly Song Countdown
And I’ve never licked a spark plug and I’ve never kissed a stink bug and I’ve never painted daisies on a big red rubber ball, and I’ve never bathed in yogurt and I don’t look good in leggings and we’ve never been to Boston in the fall
“The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything” is iconic for a reason. The premise is genius: pirates who are lazy and inept, preferring La-Z-Boys to looting. Larry’s verse is the highlight, a stream of nonsensical “never have I ever” statements that are just pure, unadulterated silliness. The contrast between the pirate theme and their complete lack of pirate-like activity is what makes this song so enduringly funny. It’s a classic for a reason.
#7: “The Dance of the Cucumber” – Rack, Shack and Benny
Look at the tomato, isn’t it sad?! He can’t dance… Poor tomato.
The only Silly Song entirely in Spanish? “The Dance of the Cucumber” is unique and hilarious. Larry singing in Spanish, with Bob translating, is a fun and unexpected twist. While the Disneyland part with Junior feels a bit random, the rest of the song, especially Bob’s rant about Uncle Louie’s polka party, is fantastic. It’s a fun cultural detour and showcases VeggieTales’ willingness to experiment with different styles and languages.
#8: “Song of the Cebu” – Josh and the Big Wall (1997)
Boy is riding with Cebu into town in his canoe. Sick cebu is rowing and sneezing achoo moo moo, achoo moo moo moo moo.
“Song of the Cebu” is wonderfully low-budget and charmingly absurd. Billed as a “stereophonic multimedia event,” it’s just Larry with a slide projector, a bedsheet, and his own drawings. The nonsensical story of a boy and his cebus encountering a hippo is already funny, but the real humor comes from the unanswered questions and Larry’s equipment malfunctions, showing his vacation photos instead. It’s endearingly amateurish and consistently makes me laugh.
#9: “Lance The Turtle” – Gideon: Tuba Warrior (2006)
Lance the turtle, aloha Lance! Lance the turtle, dance, dance, dance
Bob doing ukulele karaoke? Count me in! “Lance the Turtle” starts off normal enough, but quickly descends into chaos when the wind machine shreds Bob’s lyric sheets. The scrambled, nonsensical lyrics that result are actually funnier than the original song. It’s a testament to VeggieTales’ improvisational humor and ability to find comedy in unexpected places. Sometimes, mistakes are happy accidents!
#10: “His Cheeseburger” – Madame Blueberry (1998)
He loves you cheeseburger with all his heart and there ain’t nothin’ gonna tear you two apart, and if the world suddenly ran out of cheese, he would get down on his hands and knees to see if someone accidentally dropped some cheese on the floor and he would wash it off for you, wipe it off for you, clean that dirty cheese off just for you! You are his cheeseburger!
“His Cheeseburger” is funny before it even starts. Larry trapped in a bear trap during the intro? Classic. But the real comedic gold is Archibald’s announcement that “Silly Songs With Larry” is cancelled and replaced with “Love Songs With Mr. Lunt.” Mr. Lunt’s love song to a cheeseburger, and the epic love triangle with half-price bacon and eggs, is just the right kind of ridiculous. It’s unexpected, absurd, and perfectly sets up the rest of the song.
#11: “The Water Buffalo Song” – Where’s God When I’m S-Scared (1993)
Everybody’s got a water buffalo, yours is fast but mine is slow. Oh, where’d we get them I don’t know, but everybody’s got a water buffalo!
The very first Silly Song! “The Water Buffalo Song” is hilarious for two reasons. Larry’s simple, repetitive water buffalo ditty is funny in its own right, but Archibald’s Monty Python-esque rant about how silly it is and how it needs to stop is comedic perfection. The contrast between Larry’s innocent silliness and Archibald’s highbrow disapproval is what makes this song so iconic and a fantastic start to the Silly Songs legacy.
#12: “The Yodeling Veterinarian of the Alps” – Compilation DVDs
This is *a song for your bear trapped teddy! He looks uncomfy, think I’d be too! And if I sing to your bear trapped teddy, he will feel better in a day or two!
Larry yodeling? Always funny. “The Yodeling Veterinarian of the Alps” is inherently silly from the title alone. Larry’s yodeling skills are ridiculous, and the visual of him being chased by a grizzly bear at the end is classic cartoon humor. But the song also has a clever undercurrent, highlighting the importance of nurses (represented by Pa Grape as a male nurse – a great touch!) and subtly mocking those who take credit for others’ work.
#13: “Do The Mu-Shu” – Ultimate Silly Song Countdown (2001)
Kung pao chicken, Mongolian chicken, sweet and sour chicken, cashew chicken
“Do The Mu-Shu” is pure funky, food-related fun. In the middle of a Silly Song countdown, the machine breaks down, and Larry and Mr. Lunt have to improvise. Their solution? Rap the entire Chinese takeout menu! It’s catchy, high-energy, and makes you instantly hungry for Chinese food. It’s a great example of VeggieTales’ ability to be both silly and musically engaging.
#14: “Larry’s High Silk Hat” – Lyle: The Kindly Viking (2001)
One day, as he was waiting for the trolley, he had a hat, a high silk hat!
“Larry’s High Silk Hat” is a clever parody of “Funiculi, Funicula” with a valuable lesson about boasting. Larry’s pride in his new hat and chocolates, and his subsequent comeuppance when everyone moves away from him, is a funny and effective way to teach humility. The janitor who has no name after all these years is a great running gag, and the subtle “Forrest Gump” reference is a fun Easter egg for observant viewers.
#15: “The Hairbrush Song” – Are You My Neighbor (1995)
Oh where is my hairbrush?!
“Oh Where is my Hairbrush?” is relatable humor at its finest. Anyone who’s ever lost their hairbrush (or had a family member who constantly loses theirs) will appreciate this song. The opera format elevates the mundane search for a hairbrush to epic proportions, and the sheer silliness of a cucumber owning a hairbrush is wonderfully VeggieTales. It’s dramatic, suspenseful, and ultimately, hilariously resolved.
#16: “SUV” – A Snoodle’s Tale (2004)
Oh, you and me, and our Sports Utility Vehicles, cruisin’ to Dunkin’ Donuts for a cup of steamin’ joe. Oh, you and me, and our Sports Utility Vehicles, slam into 4 wheel drive for a scoop of rocky road!
“SUV” is a power ballad about… SUVs. Larry and Mrs. Achmetha singing about their love for their vehicles and their dreams of being roadside heroes is wonderfully over-the-top. The song itself is a legitimate jam, and Mrs. Achmetha’s improved singing voice compared to her previous puppy song is a welcome upgrade. It’s a funny, catchy tribute to suburban life and the humble SUV.
#17: “Hopperena” – Twas The Night Before Easter (2011)
Archibald, Mr. serious asparagus, I believe you will probably agree with us. The best way to not be a sourpuss, do the hopperena!
“Hopperena” is funny thanks to Archibald’s perpetual buzzkill nature. Archibald interrupting Jean Claude and Phillipe’s silly dance lesson to critique the “basic” Hopperena is classic Archibald. His rant about needing more steps and complexity is inherently funny because it’s so unnecessary and over-the-top. His eventual change of heart and embrace of the Hopperena is the comedic payoff, making the song even more enjoyable.
#18: “The Blues With Larry” – Duke and the Great Pie War 2005
All sunshine and roses, no rain came my way. I said, all sunshine and roses, no rain came my way. My dad bought me ice cream, oh happy, happy, happy day!
“The Blues With Larry” is funny because Larry completely misses the point of the blues. His attempt at singing a blues song with lyrics about sunshine and ice cream is wonderfully clueless and optimistic. It perfectly embodies Larry’s eternally cheerful personality and highlights his comedic inability to grasp sadness or negativity. It’s a funny subversion of the blues genre and a great showcase for Larry’s optimistic charm.
#19: “Oh Santa” – The Toy That Saved Christmas (1996)
Oh santa, I just can’t wait for you to come, I just can’t wait for you to come and I’ve got cookies, three yummy cookies! Only for you for when you come, only for you for when you come, because its Christmas!
“Oh Santa” is hilarious chaos. Larry anxiously awaiting Santa and encountering a bank robber, a viking, and an IRS taxman is a wonderfully bizarre scenario. Larry’s oblivious hospitality, offering cookies to the robber and viking but slamming the door on the taxman, is classic slapstick comedy. The taxman’s cut-off song is a perfect comedic punchline.
#20: “Kilts and Stilts” – MacLarry and the Stinky Cheese Battle (2013)
I dance on stilts, he stitches quilts. I sing in simulated Scottish Highland lilt. He plays his bagpipes, eats Haggis melts. we feel so smart in our red tartan Scottish kilts!
“Kilts and Stilts” gets funnier as it goes on. Scooter the Carrot initially being excited about Scottish representation in a Silly Song, only to become increasingly angry as the song progresses, is a great comedic arc. The angrier Scooter gets, the more ridiculous and hilarious the song becomes. It’s a funny commentary on cultural stereotypes and the potential for well-intentioned silliness to go awry.
#21: “Wrapped Myself Up For Christmas” – Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas (2013)
Wrapped in the trappings of holiday bliss. Wrapped in bright wrappings gone badly amiss. In paper and tape, in a cucumber shape. Oops, I wrapped myself up for Christmas
“Wrapped Myself Up For Christmas” is relatable slapstick. The idea of Larry accidentally wrapping himself up in Christmas wrapping paper is a classic visual gag. Anyone who’s ever struggled with gift wrapping (like me!) will appreciate the humor. Larry’s wrapping fails are funny because they’re both absurd and slightly relatable.
#22: “Sippy Cup” – Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Noah’s Umbrella (2009)
Don’t give me a sippy cup, haven’t spilled since yesterday! Water won’t stain anyway! Bring a mug, bring a jug, just don’t bring a sippy cup
“Sippy Cup” is funny in its overreaction. The idea that spilling drinks becomes a criminal offense is wonderfully absurd. Larry’s escalating frustration with sippy cups and his eventual triumph in court is a funny, albeit exaggerated, scenario. It’s a silly song about a very minor inconvenience blown way out of proportion.
#23: “Where Have All The Staplers Gone” – Pistachio: The Little Boy That Woodn’t (2010)
Where have all the staplers gone? What happened to our paperclips? The ballpoint pens are gone again! The Stick-It pads have lost their stick!
“Where Have All The Staplers Gone” is office supply angst set to music. This “Obscure Broadway Showtune With Larry” about missing office supplies is relatable to anyone who’s ever worked in an office or even just tried to keep their home office organized. The dramatic musical style contrasting with the mundane subject matter is what makes this song so funny. It’s a beautiful, over-the-top lament about everyday office frustrations.
#24: “Bellybutton” – The Ballad of Little Joe (2003)
There’s a secret I’ve been hiding, I can’t take it no more! There’s this thing about himself he’s never told you before
“Bellybutton” is another Boyz in the Sink rap, and this time it’s a love song about… a missing belly button. Mr. Lunt’s deep, dark secret is wonderfully anticlimactic and absurd. Khalil’s rap is once again a highlight, and the whole premise is just wonderfully silly. It’s a funny, slightly bizarre love song with a VeggieTales twist.
#25: “The Biscuit of Zazzamarandabo” – Tomato Sawyer and Huckleberry Larry’s Big River Rescue (2008)
The Biscuit of Zazzamarandabo, it lies atop a field of snow, high in the hills where the cold winds blow, the biscuit of zazzamarandibo!
“The Biscuit of Zazzamarandabo” is all about the fun of saying a silly word. “Zazzamarandabo” is just a wonderfully nonsensical and fun word to say. The song itself is simple and repetitive, but the sheer joy of pronouncing “Zazzamarandabo” is what makes it memorable and enjoyable.
#26: “Endangered Love” – King George and the Ducky (2000)
Don’t cry Barbara, you’re a nice manatee, you’ve been so good to me, but I must go into the world and do noble things for the good of all, and you can’t come because you don’t speak French!
“Endangered Love” is soap opera parody gold. Larry getting invested in a soap opera about a manatee and a human is inherently funny. His reactions to the drama, yelling at the TV and offering to take Barbara the manatee to the ball, are classic Larry. The over-the-top melodrama of soap operas perfectly lends itself to VeggieTales’ brand of silliness.
#27: “Gated Community” – Sheerluck Holmes and the Golden Ruler (2006)
Can I have my ball, can I get my ball? I kicked it into the tree and my ball bounced up and my ball bounced into the gated community
“Gated Community” is all about contrasting personalities. The overly cheerful and oblivious gated community residents, singing about how lovely and smiley they are while completely ignoring Larry’s plea for his ball, is a funny social commentary. The harmonies of the community members are great, and their complete lack of awareness is what makes the song so humorous.
#28: “Donuts For Benny” – St. Nicholas: A Story Of Joyful Giving (2009)
Doggies have feelings and doggies need love. Doggies like those deep-fried treats that come from up above
“Donuts For Benny” is an emotional rollercoaster. The first part of the song, with the sad, homeless dog, is genuinely touching. But then, the song takes a hilarious turn as Benny gets a sugar rush from the donuts and starts dancing and singing “Waltz Me Around Again Baby!” The sudden shift from pathos to pure silliness is what makes this song so memorable and funny.
#29: “Mess Down In Egypt” – Moe & The Big Exit (2007)
“On the banks of the Nile born and raised, in the crib of the Pharaoh in his teenage days. Chillin’, kickin’, wearin’ silk jamsies, learnin’ hieroglyphics from his granddad Ramses, when a whack Egyptian, black belt kung-fu, started whoopin’ it up on his homie Hebrew! Coulda called the cops, stood back, but instead, he took a big stick upside of his head!”
“Mess Down In Egypt” is The Boyz in the Sink rapping the story of Moses. Parodying “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” to tell a Bible story is a clever and funny concept. The rap itself is well-done and entertaining, and it’s a creative and modern take on a classic story.
#30: “Macaroni & Cheese” – Beauty And The Beet (2016)
“My great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather and my great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, grandmother, I forget how many greats, came from different families that didn’t like each other.
“Macaroni & Cheese” is all about repetition and escalating absurdity. Larry’s increasingly long and rambling explanation of his great-great-great-etc. grandparents inventing macaroni and cheese is hilarious. The “West Side Story” references add another layer of humor for Broadway fans. It’s a simple joke, but the execution and Larry’s delivery make it work.
#31: “Schoolhouse Polka” – Sumo of the Opera (2004)
Two, two, two, two, two of my favorite toys! I’m bringing to, to, to, to, a place the first one enjoys, and I like it too!
“Schoolhouse Polka” is educational and entertaining. Turning an English lesson into a polka song is a fun and creative idea. It’s catchy, upbeat, and genuinely teaches a little something while being silly at the same time.
#32: “Sneeze If You Need To” – Abe and the Amazing Promise (2009)
Sneeze if you need to! Don’t hold it in, just be sure that you cover your mouth with a tissue, I will assist you. Sneeze all your troubles away at up to 150 miles an hour
“Sneeze If You Need To” is surprisingly informative and catchy. Bob needing to sneeze and visiting the sneeze doctor (Larry) is a funny premise. The fun facts about sneezing interspersed throughout the song are genuinely interesting, and the music itself is actually quite beautiful.
#33: “Perfect Puppy” – Celery Night Fever (2014)
I’ve been a little lonely, I thought if I could only, only look up and see, the perfect puppy for me!
“Perfect Puppy” is sweet and simple. While not the funniest Silly Song, it’s undeniably cute. The focus on puppies and the longing for a perfect pet is heartwarming, especially for dog lovers. Sometimes, silly can also be sweet.
#34: “Goodnight Junior” – It’s A Meaningful Life (2010)
My cat, yes that! He’s soft and cute and fat. I love him so and you must know my heart would fall down flat! It would yearn and ache and then it’d break, my tears would soak a Birthday cake, the earth would quake, oh please, mom, please, I’d lie awake without my fuzzy cat!”
“Goodnight Junior” is relatable kid humor. Junior wanting to bring every single stuffed animal to bed with him is something many kids (and maybe even some adults!) can relate to. The escalating pleas to his mom and the eventual mountain of stuffed animals burying him are funny visual gags.
#35: “Asteroid Cowboys” – Veggies In Space: The Fennel Frontier (2014)
Home, home out in space, keepin’ them asteroids in place. Oh we’ve gotta take care, cause without any air the vaccum will suck out your face!
“Asteroid Cowboys” is the best part of a forgettable episode. The lyrics are genuinely funny, and the visuals, especially Gerry getting knocked out by an asteroid and the bug-eyed veggies without helmets, are great slapstick moments. It’s a silly space western that’s more entertaining than the episode it’s from.
#36: “The 8 Polish Foods Of Christmas” – The Little Drummer Boy (2011)
The first Polish Christmas dish I bring to the party, a boiled potato topped with dill weed!
“The 8 Polish Foods Of Christmas” is more interesting than laugh-out-loud funny. Seeing the Veggies celebrate Christmas with Polish food is culturally interesting. While not the silliest song, it’s a fun and slightly educational look at Polish Christmas traditions.
#37: “My Golden Egg” – Noah’s Ark (2015)
My golden egg has my name on it! It will be mine, all mine, all mine because I want it
“My Golden Egg” is the last “official” Silly Song, and it’s decent. Larry’s determination to find the golden Easter egg is relatable, and the song has a good beat and a moral about sharing. While not a top-tier Silly Song, it’s a respectable send-off to the segment.
#38: “Bubble Wrap” – If I Sang A Silly Song (2012) and Robin Good and his Not So Merry Men (2013)
Covered with love, sealed against troubles, sheltered in a glove of bubbles
“Bubble Wrap” is a pop song about bubble wrap. Performed by The Boyz in the Sink and featuring Khalil the caterpillar rapping, it’s definitely… unique. Khalil’s rap is surprisingly good, and the whole concept is just weird enough to be memorable.
#39: “Supper Hero” – The League Of Incredible Vegetables (2012)
Got vittles you don’t want to chew? Don’t want to eat what’s cooked for you? Then citizen don’t fear-o! I am the supper hero!
“Supper Hero” is funny mostly for Gerry Gourd’s ridiculous outfit. Gerry dressed as a “supper hero” to eat unwanted vegetables is a funny visual. The song itself is okay, but Gerry’s costume and the idea of a food-eating superhero are the comedic highlights.
#40: “Astonishing Wigs” – The Princess & The Pop Star (2011)
From most famous queens of greatest means to the lowly duchess fair ran a common thread upon the head for those unhappy with their hair
“Astonishing Wigs” is catchy but not particularly funny. The song about wigs is well-sung and has a good rhythm, but the humor is a bit understated compared to other Silly Songs. It’s a decent song, just not a standout in terms of silliness.
#41: “Happy Tooth Day” – The Little House That Stood (2013)
My only tooth, my lonely tooth, my all by itself in the middle of my mouth tooth. Happy tooth day to you!
“Happy Tooth Day” starts catchy but gets creepy fast. The beginning of the song is fun and upbeat, but then Larry puts in the false teeth, and it just becomes weird and unsettling. The creepiness factor outweighs the initial catchiness, making it one of the less enjoyable Silly Songs.
#42: “BFF” – The Penniless Princess (2012)
T4BU! TXU2! URWLOL! My BFFLNMW, gee I think you’re swell!
“BFF” is just annoying. Singing an entire song in text speak is grating and unfunny. The music video’s confusing split-screen and then reveal that the girls are in the same room adds to the annoyance. It’s a dated and poorly executed attempt at being “modern” that falls completely flat. For me, “BFF” is the absolute bottom of the Silly Songs barrel.
What’s Your Favorite Silly Song?
So there you have it, my ranking of every Silly Song With Larry! It was a trip down memory lane revisiting all these veggie tunes, and it really solidified my love for VeggieTales and their unique brand of humor.
Now, I want to know what YOU think! What’s your absolute favorite Silly Song With Larry? Did your favorite make my top 10? Let me know in the comments below! I’m always up for a good Silly Song debate!
