Quiet Riot Unearths Lost Song Featuring Kevin DuBrow’s Vocals

Legendary hard rock band Quiet Riot has thrilled fans by re-releasing “REHAB: RELAPSED AND REMASTERED,” an album now enriched with a previously unheard track featuring the unmistakable vocals of the late Kevin DuBrow. Titled “I Can’t Hold On,” this newly unveiled Quiet Riot song offers a poignant and powerful reminder of DuBrow’s enduring talent. The track, born from a 2003 collaboration between DuBrow and guitarist Alex Grossi, has been meticulously resurrected and completed, bridging the past and present of this iconic band.

In a recent interview with The Metal Voice, Regina Banali, Quiet Riot’s manager and widow of the late Frankie Banali, alongside guitarist Alex Grossi, shared the fascinating story behind this rediscovered Quiet Riot song. Grossi recounted how the original recording, a demo from a Vegas writing session, was nearly lost to time, residing on an old iPod. “The song came off of a CDR… dumped into my iTunes which got transferred to an iPod and then disappeared,” Grossi explained, highlighting the almost accidental rediscovery of this musical gem.

The journey to bring “I Can’t Hold On” to light was a labor of love and technical ingenuity. Armed with the vocal track from the iPod and existing drum tracks by Frankie Banali, the band embarked on a meticulous process of extraction and reconstruction. Producer Alistair James, known for his work with Joe Perry and Johnny Depp, played a crucial role in editing and refining the track. Regina Banali emphasized the dedication poured into the song, stating, “That guy AJ (Alistair James) that we worked with is a genius editor. He really took it apart and and nuanced every little note.” Grossi added that the song underwent an impressive “39 revisions,” showcasing the band’s commitment to perfection.

The rediscovery of “I Can’t Hold On” opens up exciting possibilities for Quiet Riot fans. When asked about the potential for more unreleased Quiet Riot Songs, Regina Banali hinted at a treasure trove of archived material. “There is so much stuff in my garage and in storage units… it’s entirely possible that there’s more but I don’t know,” she revealed, suggesting that further exploration of their archives could yield more musical surprises.

Grossi confirmed the existence of additional material, mentioning “seven or eight songs with Kevin during that time,” some of which contributed to the “Rehab” album. He expressed optimism about uncovering more lost Quiet Riot songs, contingent on the ability to “dig it up and if we can make it work the way this one did.” The successful revival of “I Can’t Hold On” certainly fuels anticipation for future discoveries from Quiet Riot’s vaults.
