VOILÀ has captivated audiences with their unique sound and compelling collaborations. As content creators for payoffsong.com, we delve into the artistry of VOILÀ, exploring their inspirations, collaborations, and the magic that fuels their music, particularly their standout “Voila Song” creations. In this exclusive interview, we uncover the secrets behind their captivating sound and what makes VOILÀ a band to watch.
Collaborative Dreams and Songwriting Inspirations
VOILÀ has already worked with impressive names like Kellin Quinn, Hey Violet, and Lexy Panterra. Known for their love of collaboration, we asked about dream collaborations that are still on the horizon.
Luke shared, “I really like witty songwriters. Genre doesn’t matter to me; it’s all about clever wordplay! I’d be thrilled to work with wordsmiths like Pete Wentz, Sam Hunt, Leanna Firestone, and Relient K. Expanding beyond musicians, I’m also drawn to the idea of writing a song with a non-traditional songwriter, maybe an author like Nicholas Sparks or Jennifer Niven!”
Gus added, “Honestly, there are so many people I’m eager to collaborate with. But my ultimate dream collaboration would be with Bring Me the Horizon.”
Years of Harmony: The VOILÀ Band Dynamic
Luke and Gus’s journey began at USC. We were curious about what they’ve learned about each other throughout their years of creating music together as VOILÀ.
Luke reflected, “Gus is the most incredibly hardworking person I know. Our career aspirations are intertwined with VOILÀ, and if for no other reason, I want us to succeed because Gus truly deserves it. He’s poured his heart and soul into crafting the VOILÀ sound, and I sincerely hope listeners can hear the countless hours of dedication he invests. On a more personal note, he also has an unexpectedly strong and specific affection for Minneapolis, Minnesota!”
Musical Roots: A Nod to The Kooks
Hearing whispers of their appreciation for The Kooks, a band we also admire, we had to ask about their favorite songs by this influential group.
Luke exclaimed, “Wow, you’ve done your research! This is a fantastic question. Inside In/Inside Out is easily in my top 5 most listened-to albums ever. I’m pretty sure I can recite every lyric on that album without hesitation. It’s probably why I struggle to remember my friends’ birthdays – my brain space is occupied by that album! Haha! My personal favorite song is “Matchbox” because it was the first song my high school band ever covered, so it’s deeply nostalgic for me. However, I probably listen to “Seaside” the most frequently. I find it incredibly evocative and romantic.”
Gus shared a humorous anecdote: “Massive fan here too. I once saw them play in Milwaukee, which was a funny contrast – their Northern British accents against the very distinct American Mid-West vowels of the crowd.”
Beyond Music: The Magic of VOILÀ and “The Magicians”
VOILÀ’s fanbase is affectionately known as “The Magicians.” Intrigued by this magical theme, we asked if either of them knew any actual magic tricks.
Luke admitted, “I used to know a lot more than I do now! For years, I was really fascinated by magic and thought it would be a good way to impress girls – spoiler alert: it wasn’t! Haha. But magic and illusion will always hold a special place in my heart, and that’s why VOILÀ is so deeply connected to those themes and aesthetics. This is reflected in our music and even our ‘voila song’ creations.”
Gus offered a different perspective on magic, “Yeah – honestly, the real magic is meeting our fans on the road and hearing their individual stories. That’s by far the most magical and humbling experience I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. It’s these connections that truly inspire our ‘voila song’ and our music as a whole.”
VOILÀ’s dedication to their craft and their fans is evident. Their music, including their signature “voila song” tracks, is a testament to their hard work, creative synergy, and genuine connection with their audience. Keep an eye on VOILÀ as they continue to weave their musical magic and create more unforgettable songs.
